Good news has arisen from the June 17th draw of Lotto 6/49. A Cumberland County woman named Helen Fortune managed to win the big $1 million prize. She bought the ticket from the Circle K gas station, where she works, and even her boss will receive a hefty seller’s prize of 1 per cent after she claims her lottery winnings.

What to do with a Million Dollars

Fortune stated that she and her husband will be using the money to eventually purchase a brand new house, to pay off some bills, and to aid their family members in their lives. Overall though, the first thing they want to actually purchase is a brand new washing machine.

Purchasing a Lotto Ticket as a Lotto Ticket Retailer

She purchased the ticket using the Retailer Play feature that the lottery corporation has in place in order to give the retail employees who sell the tickets the ability to play the game. This causes the winner to be subjected to a 30 day waiting period if the tickets used did not have a Retailer Play stamp, as part of the Atlantic Lottery’s player protection mechanism.

Lotto 6/49

The money was won through Lotto 6/49, a long standing and well respected lottery in the area that’s been serving Canada faithfully ever since it was first founded way back in 1982. Over the decades they’ve been around, there have been many winners that have had their lives changed overnight. Some of their more newsworthy accomplishments include being the lottery that has given out the largest single jackpot in Canada’s history, which was won on April 13th of 2013 at a sum of $63.4 million. Without a doubt, they’re one of the most popular lotteries in Canada and are bound to make even more people millionaires in the coming years.

2015 World Poker Championship Win Goes to Connif Comments Off on 2015 World Poker Championship Win Goes to Connif

The Borgata Casino Hotel and Spa has held this year’s World Poker Tour Championship again this year, which is the second time in a row they’ve done so. There was a big turn out there, too, as the main event (no limit hold ’em) drew in a total of 239 entries. There can only be one winner, though, and this year, that goes to the New York based poker player Asher Connif. He won a whopping $973,683 as well as over 1,150 points as Card Player for Player of the Year.

The Borgata Casino Hotel and Spa has held this year's World Poker Tour Championship.

 Asher Connif

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Conif, as just two weeks ago he had just won at the Borgata Spring Poker Open for $1 million. For this earlier event, he got through a field of over 2,400 entries to earn a grand total of $203,231 and over 500 player of the year points.

He Never Even Meant to Play

Connif stated that he never even meant to play the World Poker Tour event (which is a $15,000 buy in). He was attempting to play a weekly Sunday event on a New Jersey based poker site and accidentally registered for a satellite into the championship. After winning a seat, he even had to cancel his upcoming vacation plans.

Playing with the Pros

It seems as though it all worked out for the best in the end. Connif worked his way through the lower brackets before finally getting into the televised finale of six players. These were tough competitors to beat, as they included poker legends of the likes of Carlos Mortensen, Tony Dunst, and Brian Yoon. It came down to him and Alexander Lakhov in the final match of the no limit hold ’em championship.

Brian Rast is the founder of Zen Poker Mentoring

Brian Rast is the founder of Zen Poker Mentoring, a poker training venture, and a winner of many tournaments. It is estimated that he won nearly $7.73 million by playing in a number of tournaments.

Early life

Rast, born November 8, 1981, showed extraordinary acumen in his early life. He soon enrolled in Stanford University to get a degree and was all scheduled to do so, until he got a taste of poker. His initial games were played at San Diego’s Barona Casino. He also played a no-limit Royal Vegas Poker on Prima Network. This continued until he bankrolled about $100,000. He terms this amount as “baseline number” at start of his career.

By this time, Rast was also making his mark in the world of online gambling. His rank was third in PokerStars Monday Million where he won $73,490. He also took the third position in Full Tilt Poker FTOPS III Main Event. He got $114,203.50 from Full Tilt. His success spurred him to move to Las Vegas, the Mecca of poker.

Personal and career progression

Rast met Phil Laak at Bellagio, where he won a game with his support. Laak introduced him to Antonio Esfandiari, who was once an aspiring magician. All three became fast friends a short time after that.

Soon after Rast went to Brazil as a tourist and met Juliana. They fell in love but faced a problem-the US rejected her visa multiple times and he could not get her to the United States. After a lot of pain with the visa process and missing the main game of the 2011 World Series of Poker, he could finally obtain a visa for Julianna and they eventually landed in Las Vegas in 2011. Rast scored his maiden gold bracelet when he defeated Allen Kessler to win Event number 15: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em. The prize money was $226,232.

20th Anniversary for the UK Lottery This Year Comments Off on 20th Anniversary for the UK Lottery This Year

20th Anniversary celebration National Lottery in the United Kingdom celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. There were a lot of skeptics when the National Lottery started up in 1994, but they have been won over by the fantastic projects that are funded by this system.

National Lottery Funded Projects:

The past 20 years may have seen hundreds of people win big at the National Lottery, but that is not where the main focus should lie. Along with gifting people the dream of winning a million pounds or more, the lottery has helped countless charities, organizations and non profits in the UK.

For example, the Lylac Ridger Learning Centre in Wales would not exist without money from the National Lottery. This center helps people of all ages who have learning difficulties.

The North Tyneside Art Studoio and the Everyman Playhouse Theatre on Mereyside are two art projects that have received generous funding from the National Lottery. Not only do these centres create brilliant art, but they also help young people who are passionate about drawing, painting or performing.

It may not be well publicized, but the National Lottery played a crucial role in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. Millions of pounds went from the National Lottery to sports organizations, teams in training, Olympic sites and other sports organizations.

Big Lottery Fund:

One of the best examples of the good that a lottery system can do is the Big Lottery Fund. Started in 2004, the Big Lottery Fund takes up around 40% of the profits that are made from the sale of lottery tickets. This money is distributed throughout England to its neediest citizens and communities.

Experts estimate that close to 100 million pounds will have been donated to charities, shelters, hostels, and other community projects throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Online Gambling Arrives At Last in Mexico Comments Off on Online Gambling Arrives At Last in Mexico

Posted on November 21, 2014 by Kimberly Goshterson

Mexico gamblingThe fear of money laundering has been put to rest after both the national parties of Mexico agreed to frame strong legal guidelines to manage online gambling in the nation. The long process of discussion between National Action Party and Party of the Democratic Revolution led to the formation of an agreement within which, online gambling will be legalised, but under tough regulations to restrain money laundering. According to Mexican media the gambling law will lay down the minimum age of online gambling players to 21 years to restrict youngsters from developing a liking for the addictive game.

Though a gambling law implemented in 2004 allowed land-based casinos to operate legally, online gambling and National Lottery of Mexico have been operational since 2008 and were not popular due to payment restrictions.

Online gambling council

According to the new legislation which is valid for 10 years, there will be a new Advisory Council to administer and regulate online gambling. It will consist of secretaries from departments like health, tourism, economics and finance. Mr. Ricardo Mejia Berdeja, Deputy and Former Chairman of Mexico’s Special Commission on Casinos stated that the agreement has been made after continuous deliberations of legislators and representatives from Federal Government and non-government organizations. The legislation will work to reduce money laundering by making limitations on back room illegal gambling, which generally occurs on country side. The law is expected to bring some semblance of law and order into unauthorized gambling being done now and banks can allow use of debit and credit card payments for licensed operators.

Expected growth in revenue

The legislation will help licensed operators like Poker From Home de Mexico, S. de C.V. (PFHM), which already has an agreement with Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas and others to run their operations with government approval. Gambling enthusiasts are also eagerly awaiting launch of Probability, which has signed an agreement with Mexico’s Grupo Caliente in 2011 as reseller to offer players mobile bingo and mobile slots. The regulation will bring in large casinos and tournaments into Mexico like the ones in Brazil and other parts of Latin America leading to generation of revenue, which can be used for development of community.

Ivey Further Defends Himself against Edge Sorting Allegations Comments Off on Ivey Further Defends Himself against Edge Sorting Allegations

Posted on October 28, 2014 by Kimberly Goshterson

Phil IveyPoker winner Phil Ivey may lose his battle with litigation, seeking baccarat winnings of $12 million against a London casino, but he has remained steadfast in the fight against his own reputation, tarnished by allegations and cheating and edge sorting.

Ivey doesn’t believe that he has cheated. He believes that what he does is simply finding advantages wherever he can, something that every other gambler worth their salt does. At a scheduled interview, moments before he’d continue his play, he’d specify that conditions are agreed to by the casino before he sat down to gamble millions of dollars that, he said, gave him an edge.

As described by Associated, during the interview, there was the understanding by the casino to make use of particular brands of whatever he might have used to gain an edge at the table. The list of these would include cards, shuffling devices, and dealers. Additionally, Ivey said, he would bring along others that would help him in communication, and deal with whatever side matters would possibly spring up.

What these add up is a case against Ivey that include a number of devices that that gambler used to gained slight edges, across a multitude of factors. While slight, they are nevertheless a contribution to a case of casino fraud. In the U.K. suit, Ivey was found to have clearly went beyond the pale of appropriate casino behaviour, through a number of measures that he would use the ascertain the particular value of cards, such as tarnishing the edges. The court ruled these advantages were not fair, and ruled that the casino owner, Malaysia’s Genting, didn’t need to pay Ivey for his related legal expenses.

Ivey contends that none of this adds up to cheating, and is a result of amateurs misunderstanding the system.
