Good news has arisen from the June 17th draw of Lotto 6/49. A Cumberland County woman named Helen Fortune managed to win the big $1 million prize. She bought the ticket from the Circle K gas station, where she works, and even her boss will receive a hefty seller’s prize of 1 per cent after she claims her lottery winnings.

What to do with a Million Dollars

Fortune stated that she and her husband will be using the money to eventually purchase a brand new house, to pay off some bills, and to aid their family members in their lives. Overall though, the first thing they want to actually purchase is a brand new washing machine.

Purchasing a Lotto Ticket as a Lotto Ticket Retailer

She purchased the ticket using the Retailer Play feature that the lottery corporation has in place in order to give the retail employees who sell the tickets the ability to play the game. This causes the winner to be subjected to a 30 day waiting period if the tickets used did not have a Retailer Play stamp, as part of the Atlantic Lottery’s player protection mechanism.

Lotto 6/49

The money was won through Lotto 6/49, a long standing and well respected lottery in the area that’s been serving Canada faithfully ever since it was first founded way back in 1982. Over the decades they’ve been around, there have been many winners that have had their lives changed overnight. Some of their more newsworthy accomplishments include being the lottery that has given out the largest single jackpot in Canada’s history, which was won on April 13th of 2013 at a sum of $63.4 million. Without a doubt, they’re one of the most popular lotteries in Canada and are bound to make even more people millionaires in the coming years.

2015 World Poker Championship Win Goes to Connif Comments Off on 2015 World Poker Championship Win Goes to Connif

Posted on March 13, 2015 by Kimberly Goshterson

The Borgata Casino Hotel and Spa has held this year’s World Poker Tour Championship again this year, which is the second time in a row they’ve done so. There was a big turn out there, too, as the main event (no limit hold ’em) drew in a total of 239 entries. There can only be one winner, though, and this year, that goes to the New York based poker player Asher Connif. He won a whopping $973,683 as well as over 1,150 points as Card Player for Player of the Year.

The Borgata Casino Hotel and Spa has held this year's World Poker Tour Championship.

 Asher Connif

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Conif, as just two weeks ago he had just won at the Borgata Spring Poker Open for $1 million. For this earlier event, he got through a field of over 2,400 entries to earn a grand total of $203,231 and over 500 player of the year points.

He Never Even Meant to Play

Connif stated that he never even meant to play the World Poker Tour event (which is a $15,000 buy in). He was attempting to play a weekly Sunday event on a New Jersey based poker site and accidentally registered for a satellite into the championship. After winning a seat, he even had to cancel his upcoming vacation plans.

Playing with the Pros

It seems as though it all worked out for the best in the end. Connif worked his way through the lower brackets before finally getting into the televised finale of six players. These were tough competitors to beat, as they included poker legends of the likes of Carlos Mortensen, Tony Dunst, and Brian Yoon. It came down to him and Alexander Lakhov in the final match of the no limit hold ’em championship.

Brian Rast is the founder of Zen Poker Mentoring

Brian Rast is the founder of Zen Poker Mentoring, a poker training venture, and a winner of many tournaments. It is estimated that he won nearly $7.73 million by playing in a number of tournaments.

Early life

Rast, born November 8, 1981, showed extraordinary acumen in his early life. He soon enrolled in Stanford University to get a degree and was all scheduled to do so, until he got a taste of poker. His initial games were played at San Diego’s Barona Casino. He also played a no-limit Royal Vegas Poker on Prima Network. This continued until he bankrolled about $100,000. He terms this amount as “baseline number” at start of his career.

By this time, Rast was also making his mark in the world of online gambling. His rank was third in PokerStars Monday Million where he won $73,490. He also took the third position in Full Tilt Poker FTOPS III Main Event. He got $114,203.50 from Full Tilt. His success spurred him to move to Las Vegas, the Mecca of poker.

Personal and career progression

Rast met Phil Laak at Bellagio, where he won a game with his support. Laak introduced him to Antonio Esfandiari, who was once an aspiring magician. All three became fast friends a short time after that.

Soon after Rast went to Brazil as a tourist and met Juliana. They fell in love but faced a problem-the US rejected her visa multiple times and he could not get her to the United States. After a lot of pain with the visa process and missing the main game of the 2011 World Series of Poker, he could finally obtain a visa for Julianna and they eventually landed in Las Vegas in 2011. Rast scored his maiden gold bracelet when he defeated Allen Kessler to win Event number 15: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em. The prize money was $226,232.

Posted on May 23, 2014 by Kimberly Goshterson

The San Diego poker syndicate is a gaming community that conducts poker game series periodically. The winner of the series gets to participate in the prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP)tournament. Everybody can take part in the series conducted by the syndicate, regardless of whether they’re a beginner in the game or an expert.

The syndicate’s poker seriesPoker

The syndicate hosted it’s ninth poker series this year, and the winner of the series was Jacob Beck, who played smashingly well and moved on to play in the WSOP tournament.

The syndicate is popular for conducting the well-known series with the strictest of regulations. A tournament can have up to 70 players. The main rule of the game is that all players who want to compete in the WSOP tournament must participate in at least five games. When they do it, they receive their shares from the syndicate.

The series consists of a total of twenty tournaments. When the tournaments come to an end, each player’s individual score is calculated by adding his/her twelve best scores out of twenty. The player who earns the highest overall score is declared the winner of the series, and gets a $10,000 entry to the WSOP. The player also wins a cash prize of $500.

Something for everyone

The players who come in the next 8-9 places in the series aren’t left out of the main game; they get a WSOP tournament entry of $1,500 to $2,500. These players win a guaranteed cash award of $250 each. The rest of the players in the syndicate series who finish within the Top 22 get to compete in another game conducted by the syndicate, where they can win a $1,500 or a $1,000 entry into the main tournament. Even the players who are just participating in the series have the chances of winning several bonus prizes.

If nothing, you at least get an opportunity to meet several big poker names in the industry by just participating in the syndicate.

Actor Ben Affleck’s Poker Addiction Is Destroying His Marriage Comments Off on Actor Ben Affleck’s Poker Addiction Is Destroying His Marriage

Posted on April 12, 2014 by Kimberly Goshterson

Problem gambling has been in the news a lot lately. From Queensland, Australia to Toronto, Canada, there have been many public and heated debates over gambling in every aspect. Whether the topic was Fixed Odd Betting Machines in London or the widespread global incorporation of mobile app-like games turning ordinary housewives into online gaming addicts, the media at large has had no shortage of stories about gambling and betting to report. poker addiction

America has its own spotlight story about problem gambling right now. The big feature on everybody’s computers and newspapers is Ben Affleck’s seeming downward spiral in regards to his gambling addiction. As with most addicts, the actor – who is set to star in the upcoming 2016 blockbuster Batman film – has not copped to having a problem. It was his wife, the equally high profile actress Jennifer Garner, who blew the whistle.

It all started to unravel when Ben and Jennifer were supposed to be enjoying some alone time on a vacation in Vegas before he started filming for Batman. During their trip, he was caught card counting at Hard Rock Casino, and subsequently banned from playing blackjack there. He was, as the casino owner reported, allowed to continue playing other games at their establishment.

Now, it seems, the high profile case has taken an international turn. Not only has Affleck been booted from Vegas casinos for his card counting, but recently he was asked by security to leave a Canadian establishment for the same reasons. The movie star was reportedly undertaking his advantage betting tactics of morally questionable proportions at the Caesar Windsor Hotel in Ontario, Canada when he was asked to leave. It seems that his wife has had it with his gambling habit, and she has no problem with telling the media as much.

Since the allegations have begun to fly, Garner has been more vocal about her concerns over Affleck’s addiction. She sees that he needs help, and she doesn’t trust him when he gambles. In a statement that was picked up by celebrity gossip guru Perez Hilton, a friend of the couple said “Jen demanded to go to Vegas with Ben because she doesn’t trust him and he felt like he had no choice but to take her….. Once Ben starts gambling, he can’t stop.”

Ami Barer First Canadian to Win Aussie Millions Comments Off on Ami Barer First Canadian to Win Aussie Millions

Ami BarerOn Sunday, Feb. 9, Ami Barer prevailed at the AU$10,600-buyin (about US$9,560) Main Event of the Aussie Millions tournament series, winning AU$1.6 million (approximately US$1.44 million). This was his first major live tournament victory, and the 22-year-old Vancouverite became the first Canadian to win in the 16 years that the Aussie Millions has been running.

About the Aussie Millions

This year’s Aussie Millions series was held at the Crown in Melbourne, Australia. The Aussie Millions is one of the most popular annual live poker series, and it draws competent poker players from around the world. The 2014 series contained 20 events running from Jan. 23 to Feb. 10. The Main Event attracted 668 players. It began on Feb. 2, and the final table was ready to play on Feb. 9.

Final Table Action

The seven-player final table contained a couple of big names. Besides Barer, who entered the table as the chip leader, fellow Canadian Sorel Mizzi was present, having previously finished third in the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event. World Series of Poker bracelet winner Scott Seiver was another tough competitor that Ami Barer had to get through.

Eventually, the tournament boiled down to the two Canadians, Barer and Mizzi, squaring off against each other for the championship. Barer began the heads-up match with a 2:1 chip lead, and Sorel Mizzi was unable to close the gap. After less than an hour, the final hand was dealt. Barer raised preflop, and Mizzi three-bet his remaining chips all-in. Barer made an instant call and revealed the A♥A♠. Mizzi was behind with just the Q♦8♦. The board was an irrelevant 2♣K♠2♥3♥A♦, and Sorel Mizzi was knocked out in second place, winning AU$1 million (about US$900,000).
